Flood Preparations Update #7, Truckee River Has Leveled Off in Sparks

Sparks, NV – The Truckee River has leveled off in Sparks. \r\n\r\nCity officials will begin an assessment of the area and structures this morning.\r\n\r\nThere are many traffic signals that need to be turned back on before the City can reopen many of the closed roads in the Sparks Industrial area.  Traffic signal electronics were removed to protect the components from flood waters.  Crews are in the process in reinstalling the equipment.\r\n\r\nMost roads will be opened incrementally throughout the days.  Please monitor the City’s website and social  media channels\r\n\r\nIn addition, monitor Sparks Facebook page for LIVE drone aerial coverage of the flood assessment in the industrial and other areas of the City.\r\n\r\nFLOOD PREPAREDNESS HOTLINE:\r\n\r\nThe City has established a flood hotline for general flood information at 775-353-5555 for the next 24-hour period.  The public can also dial 211 for regional flood information.\r\n\r\nCURRENT ROAD CLOSURES:  \r\n\r\nMuch of the industrial area remains closed to the public from Rock Boulevard, east to Vista Boulevard / Larkin Circle. \r\n\r\nMcCarran Boulevard between I-80 and Mill Street is closed.\r\n\r\nSouthbound off-ramp exits at Sparks Boulevard and Vista Boulevard are closed. \r\n\r\nPolice and barricades will be in place preventing access.\r\n\r\nLOCALIZED FLOODING:\r\n\r\nDue to high flows in the North Truckee Drain, streets have experienced localized flooding in the area of Springland Drive south of Shadow Lane, Goldy Avenue, and Spanish Springs Road to Howard Drive.   \r\n\r\nThe public can call 775-353-5555 if they see significant flooding in streets and neighborhoods.\r\n\r\nRIVER PATH AND PARKS ALONG THE RIVER IN SPARKS REMAIN CLOSED:\r\n\r\nThe river path along the Truckee River, from Fisherman’s Park east to its termination, is closed.  Rock Park, Cottonwood Park, Glendale Park are closed\r\n\r\nThe Public is being asked to stay away from the Truckee River.\r\n\r\nThe City has a flood update page with several resources and maps to include current road closures.\r\n
